“MOLLY-MAE REVEALS THE TRUTH ABOUT BABY MIDAS’ NAME” Fans Stunned By Unexpected Inspiration

Molly-Mae Hague has revealed her newborn son Midas was not named after the Greek King in a new YouTube vlog.

The influencer, 27, welcomed her second child with Tommy Fury, also 27, earlier this month.

The couple shared his name with the world when boxer Tommy proudly sported the newborn’s moniker on his shorts for his clash with Eddie Hall in Manchester on June 13.

The name Midas links to Greek mythology and the king of Phrygia, who was granted a wish that everything he touched turned to gold.

However, the story is actually a cautionary tale as Midas soon learned the downside to his gift when he turned his food, drink, and even his daughter to gold.

But in a new vlog, Molly-Mae has revealed that is was not the reason they picked the name, and that their son was actually named after a robot boxing film, Real Steel.

The 2011 film, which stars Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly, is set in a near-future world where high-tech, 2,000-pound robots have replaced human boxers in the ring.

Explaining the inspiration behind her newborn’s name, the Maebe founder said: ‘We have named our son Midas. His middle name is Thomas and his surname is Fury.

‘So he’s Midas Thomas Fury. We had this name for a boy for quite a few years.

‘I saw a couple of comments when the name was being rumoured about how the name originates from Greek mythology because there was a king called King Midas, and he was the king.

‘I believe the story is that everything he touches turns to gold, and I do absolutely just like love that saying.’

The phrase ‘the Midas touch’ is used to describe someone who has achieved great success, but it also has connotations of greed and foolishness.

Recording the clip prior to the match she continued: ‘When Tommy wears his kit tomorrow, inside the kit, when we were designing it, we put a little patch inside that says everything he touches turns into gold because I do just think it’s so special.

‘But equally, he’s not necessarily named after the Greek King because I saw a few comments being like, “um, King Midas was a fool in Greek mythology. Like this is just so silly if she’s called her son this”.

‘But the same way Bambi is not necessarily named after the Disney character Bambi, is the same way Midas is not named after the Greek King. This is the most random story.

‘I actually found the name from watching a film called Real Steel, which is like the most random film. It’s basically like Transformers.

‘It’s the most not me film ever. And I showed my mum it the other week.

‘She was like, ‘This is so like random for you to like this film.’ And I was like, ‘I know, but it’s actually such a great film.’

‘It’s got Hugh Jackman in it, and it’s a film about robots boxing.

‘And one of the robots in the film that was boxing was called Midas. I heard the name, and I thought this was years ago. I was like, “Wow, that’s a really cool strong name.”

‘Like Midas, I’ve never heard of that before. I just thought Midas Fury, I thought, “Wow, what a strong name.”

‘Then I mentioned it to Tommy, and he just absolutely fell in love with I don’t even know what timeline we’re looking at here.

‘This could have been like literally years ago, but that was always our boy name really that we stuck with.’

Less than two weeks after giving birth, Molly-Mae proudly watched on as Tommy went head-to-head with Eddie, a former World’s Strongest Man title holder.

Molly-Mae’s fans gushed over her appearance just two weeks after giving birth, as she appeared at the fight in a form-fitting white dress.

Fans said she looked ‘amazing’ and described her as a ‘goddess’ in the comments section of one clip.

The day before, Molly-Mae’s interior designer shared a glimpse at her new baby boy’s space-themed nursery, including a huge moon themed light which had been hung on the ceiling, offering the first hint at the name she and Tommy had chosen.

In a previous vlog, the reality star explained that the name is ‘hard to pronounce’ and whilst she admitted that it probably wasn’t as out there as Bambi she said she only knows one other child who has the name.

Since Bambi’s arrival, Tommy frequently pays tribute to his daughter through his boxing garb – including his shorts and zip-up, and Molly-Mae herself had hinted at putting their son’s name on them.

Molly-Mae said last month: ‘I’ve been designing Tommy’s shorts for his fight and I’m thinking about potentially putting I don’t know if we’re going like I don’t cuz I don’t know what the timeline’s going to be…

‘I’m thinking do I put the name of baby number two on his fight shorts?…

‘Because he always has Bambi’s name on his fight shorts, and I don’t want to like leave the second baby off.

‘But also maybe that’s how we announce the name is on his fight shorts. That would actually be quite cool. Fight on the 13th [of June] with Eddie Hall. So we’ve got a lot to look forward to guys. There’s a lot coming up in the next few weeks.’

Fans previously shared their name predictions following Molly-Mae’s birth announcement, with guesses including Miffy, Bunny, Dusk, Dream and Cloud.

One of many conspiracies came from the fact that Bambi was wearing a T-shirt adorned with an image of fictional rabbit Miffy, the character from the 1955 series of picture books drawn and written by Dutch artist Dick Bruna.

Admitting the birth of her son had been ‘incredible,’ Molly-Mae recently thanked her little one for ‘healing her newborn fears’ as she embraced being in the baby bubble.

The Love Island star has been incredibly open with her followers about how she struggled with the newborn stage with her firstborn Bambi.

Back in 2025, she said she would have been ‘terrified’ to see a positive pregnancy test, as she admitted: ‘I found the newborn stage so unbelievably difficult and daunting and looking back I can’t really say that there was any part of it that I enjoyed.’

However, it seems the second time around Molly’s experience is already completely ‘indescribably’ different.

Taking to Instagram with a snap of her newborn son, she penned: ‘Thank you for healing so many of my newborn fears little one.

‘The peace and happiness I feel this time around is something I wished for but didn’t know would come.’

She added: ‘The difference compared to this stage with Bambi is indescribable.’

Elsewhere, Molly-Mae revealed that she and Tommy had found out the gender of their child at the start of her pregnancy.

The couple and daughter Bambi looked thrilled as Tommy popped a balloon which exploded with blue confetti, she penned: ‘Just the luckiest.’

‘Nearly 9 months on from finding out we’d been blessed with a boy… and I still can’t believe it’, she added.

Over the weekend, the couple, who met on Love Island, shared a video of Tommy bringing Bambi to the hospital, before the toddler sweetly got to hold him.

As Molly-Mae asked: ‘Do you like him?’ Bambi sweetly said ‘yes.’ She captioned the clip: ‘There’s your little brother.’

It comes after Tommy was said to be ‘devastated’ after being forced to leave his family and return to training camp a day after she gave birth.

The boxer flew back to Manchester via private jet on Thursday, less than 24 hours after Molly had given birth to their second child.
