His time has come to an end after hosting the nightly talk-show for just over a decade
COMEDIAN and writer Stephen Colbert will host his last episode of The Late Show this month.
With his contract running out with CBS, the American late-night news talk show will cease to exist.
Who is Stephen Colbert?
Colbert was born on May 13, 1964 in Washington D.C. before growing up in Charleston, South Carolina.
The 61-year-old first found wide recognition when he worked as a correspondent on The Daily Show, a news parody series that aired on Comedy Central.
He then moved onto work on the show he is best known for: The Colbert Report, after leaving his previous role in 2005.
The Colbert Report was a late-night satirical programme that ran for 1,447 episodes and became one of Comedy Central’s highest-rated series.
From there, Colbert replaced the retiring David Letterman as host of The Late Show on CBS, a role he is leaving later this month.
Throughout his career he has won 11 Primetime Emmys and hosted the awards show in 2017.
Whilst also celebrating two Grammy Awards, three Peabody Awards and two mentions in Time‘s 100 Most Influential People in 2006 and 2012.
When is Stephen Colbert’s last show?
In July, CBS announced the retirement of the entire The Late Show franchise, sparking concerns about the future of late-night television.
The final episode and Stephen Colbert’s last after 11 years will take place on Thursday, May 21.
Replacing The Late Show on CBS, will be Byron Allen’s long-running show Comics Unleashed.
As for Colbert, he’s currently co-writing a Lord of the Rings movie for Warner Bros., yet to find a role hosting a television programme post-Late Show.
