THE 1% Club’s Christmas Special saw two players solve a tricky festive riddle – but did you know it?

Lee Mack was back hosting the hit ITV show for its Christmas offering, with 100 players joining him.

A female contestant on a game show is shown with a question and excerpt on the screen: "In the words below, which animal appears twice before a mouse does? 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse."
This 1% Club question had some players stumped

One of two players got it correct – would you?

After quizzing them with a series of different questions, four players made it to the 1% question, with £99,000 in the pot up for grabs.

However, Lee informed them that in a twist to the usual format – because it was Christmas – they would all get a share of the £10,000 that is usually on offer at that point in the game.

This meant that they had nothing to lose by playing on and trying to answer the 1% question.

He then revealed the question which was: “In the words below, which animal appears twice before a mouse does?”

The four players were then shown the opening lines of the poem, A Visit From St. Nicholas.

While the title of the poem by Clement-Clarke Moore may not be familiar, the words certainly will be.

They read: “Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.”

Once their time had ran out, Lee asked each of the players to reveal their answer.

The first lady said she had put ‘hen’, while the second admitted she hadn’t put anything.

The third woman said she had put ‘dog’, before the fourth lady said she had also put ‘hen’.

Lee then revealed the correct answer was ‘hen’, which was from the end of the first ‘the’ and beginning of ‘night’ and then in the word ‘when’.

It meant two out of the four ladies playing had won the jackpot, splitting the £99,000 between them to take home an amazing Christmas present of £49,500 each.

The Christmas Special comes just a couple of weeks after the show’s first Rollover Week.

It saw one player make show history by winning the whole £100,000 jackpot.

The 1% Club airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
