THIS is the shocking moment Dame Helen Mirren was branded an “evil Zionist b****” after being accosted in the street in a resurfaced video.
Footage of the incident – filmed in November last year – shows the 80-year-old actress being approached as she walked through London at night alongside her husband, Taylor Hackford.
At the beginning of the encounter near Tower Hill, the Oscar-winning actress appeared calm.
Dame Helen was seen smiling at the man and asking if he was okay as she was approached.
But the situation rapidly escalated as the pro-Palestine stranger suddenly launched into a hostile tirade and hurled abuse at her.
He shouted: “And there is Helen Mirren the avowed Zionist. You said Israel should last forever because of the Holocaust.
“You are an evil Zionist b****.
“And you [Mr Hackford] as well, f*** you as well.”
As the rant continued, Mr Hackford was seen repeatedly telling the man to “f*** off” and leave them alone.
The footage was originally shared by an account named Antifascist Action UK in November last year.
The confrontation happened after the actress did an interview promoting her film about Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir.
Campaign Against Antisemitism slammed the “absolutely appalling” video and said: “We are now at a point where public figures can be screamed at and abused simply for being perceived as being sympathetic to the world’s only Jewish state or unwilling to conform to an ideological litmus test.
“This is not activism. It is intimidation, mob behaviour and extremism masquerading as moral virtue.”
Dame Helen has a long-standing connection to Israel, having first visited Israel in 1967 shortly after the Six-Day War.
During her visit, she volunteered at Kibbutz HaOn near the Sea of Galilee and hitchhiked around the region.
Dame Helen has previously spoken out strongly against cultural boycotts of Israel, arguing that abandoning the nation’s artists would be counterproductive.
The star actress also portrayed Golda Meir, Israel’s only female prime minister, in the 2023 film Golda.
Despite her support for Israel’s right to exist, Dame Helen has also indicated she does not support every action of the Israeli government.
She has also previously voiced concern over the country’s political direction.
Dame Helen’s representatives have been approached for comment.
