Josie Gibson, beloved TV personality and This Morning regular, has bravely shared her lifelong health struggle with lipoedema — a condition that has had a major impact on her daily life. Despite her busy TV career and successful shows like Josie’s Taste of the West Country, Josie has fought with this debilitating condition, which causes an abnormal build-up of fat in her legs and arms, making them look disproportionate to the rest of her body.
“It stopped me in my tracks,” Josie confessed, explaining how even simple tasks like putting out the bins became unbearable. The 38-year-old mum opened up about her battle, saying how lipoedema made her legs and arms achy and swollen, leaving her struggling to relax after a long day.
Josie’s condition worsened with age, but she’s been tackling it head-on, undergoing liposuction and arm lift surgery to improve her quality of life. “You can train all you want, but you can’t get rid of the fat,” she revealed. Despite being fit and healthy, the stubborn fat never went away. “It’s like congealed fat,” she explained.
Sharing her story has not only been a form of self-care but also a silver lining for Josie. The positive response she’s received from women facing similar struggles has been overwhelming. “It’s made a few women feel like, ‘Thank God, it’s not just me,’” Josie said, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about this often misunderstood condition.
Even with the surgeries, Josie continues to fight against the genetics that she believes are to blame for her battle. She still struggles with the feeling that her legs don’t belong on her body. But through her pain, she remains an inspiration to many, showing that it’s okay to face challenges head-on and seek help when needed.
