Jesy Nelson has shared an incredibly touching moment on social media, posting an adorable clip of her twin daughters, Ocean and Story, holding hands as they drift off to sleep. The former Little Mix star, whose nine-month-old twins were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 earlier this year, captioned the video, “Right after their feed they always go to sleep but they have to hold each other’s hands to sleep.”
Jesy, who has been fighting tirelessly for the NHS to introduce newborn screening for SMA, has been candid with her followers about the emotional rollercoaster she’s on as she cares for her daughters during this challenging time. Despite the heartbreaking diagnosis, she remains steadfast in her dedication to raising awareness and advocating for other families facing the same battle.
Jesy wrote alongside a sweet image of her girls in matching yellow outfits: “My whole heart and soul.” The post shows the special bond between her daughters, a moment of joy amid their difficult journey.
Earlier this year, Jesy revealed that her twins’ SMA diagnosis meant they would never walk, and since then, she has campaigned for SMA screening to be added to the routine newborn tests. In response to her tireless efforts, a major breakthrough was announced: in October 2026, England will begin screening for SMA in all newborns, a huge win for the SMA community.
Jesy celebrated this “major milestone” in her campaign, sharing her pride and gratitude with her fans. “This is a real proud moment for me,” she shared, adding that the new screening will help countless families avoid the heartache she’s experienced.
Despite the victory, Jesy expressed her frustration over the fact that the screening will only be available in certain areas of England, calling it a “postcode lottery” for babies. “All babies’ lives matter,” she emphasized, “so as amazing as it is, there is still a long way to go.”
Jesy has also been vocal about the personal hardships she has faced, including an emotional moment when her car, which contained essential medical equipment for her daughters, was stolen. In response, she offered a £10,000 reward for the recovery of her vehicle, further showcasing her resilience in the face of adversity.
Through it all, Jesy continues to inspire her followers with her strength and determination, sharing both the highs and lows of her journey. As her campaign continues to grow, Jesy remains focused on securing the best future for her daughters and all babies affected by SMA.
