The BBC has just announced an exciting new six-part Welsh crime drama called Old Town Murders, and it’s already generating huge buzz.

Lead Cast:
- Mark Lewis Jones (Baby Reindeer, Gangs of London, The Light in the Hall) as DI Glyn Walsh
- Steffan Rhodri (Gavin & Stacey as Dave Coaches, Steeltown Murders, Death Valley) as DS Sion Dearden
The story kicks off when DI Glyn Walsh returns unexpectedly early from bereavement leave. He and DS Sion Dearden are thrown together to investigate the murder of an esteemed university professor. Their investigation soon takes them deep into the hidden underbelly of the local university.
Supporting Cast:
- Julie Graham (This City is Ours, Shetland, Time)
- James Bamford (Masters of the Air) as DC Neil Miller
- Bethan Mary-James (The Guest, Death Valley) as DC Remy Jones
- Catherine Ayers (The Guest, Missing You) as Chief Superintendent Melanie Morris
Created, written, and executive produced by Matthew Barry (Men Up, The Guest), the series is produced by Quay Street Productions (part of ITV Studios) for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, in co-commission with BBC Cymru Wales.
BBC bosses describe it as a “witty, twisty” crime drama where “picture-perfect Wales meets murder mystery.” It promises humour, heart, and clever plotting alongside the investigations.
Filming has already begun, but an official release date has not yet been announced (expected on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later in 2026 or 2027).

If you love shows like Shetland, Grantchester, The Bay, or Steeltown Murders, Old Town Murders looks set to be your next favourite binge.
