Fans of Gogglebox were left in mourning last night as the show confirmed the death of beloved cast member Ken Harwood, who passed away last week at the age of 77 following a short illness. Ken appeared on the Channel 4 hit alongside his wife Anne, becoming a fan favourite during their five-series run from 2020 to 2022.
Ken and Anne, married for 55 years, won viewers over with their warmth, humour, and relatable commentary on everyday TV moments. On their debut, romantic Ken surprised Anne with a bouquet of 50 roses—one for every year of their marriage—prompting her to joke, “You’ve put me to shame… but you have me and that’s all you need.”
Born in 1948 in Consett, County Durham, Ken worked as a postmaster for 30 years and later served as a local councillor before retiring in 2013. The couple’s down-to-earth charm and genuine affection made them an instant hit with the audience, who quickly felt like part of their family.
Channel 4 paid tribute to Ken, stating: “Ken will be dearly missed by his wife Anne, sons Simon and Ross, daughter-in-law Elle, grandchildren Freya and Tristram, and all who knew him. There will be a tribute to Ken at the end of last night’s episode.”
Over the years, the Gogglebox community has faced other heartbreaking losses, including the tragic death of former cast member George Gilbey in 2024. Ken’s passing marks another sad chapter, leaving fans reflecting on the joy he brought to their screens.
