The BBC has just announced an exciting new six-part Welsh crime drama called Old Town Murders, and it’s already generating huge buzz.

Set in the beautiful seaside town of Tenby, the series follows two veteran detectives — old friends who should be nearing retirement — as they team up to solve complex and perplexing murders. At its heart, it’s not just about the crimes: it’s a story about friendship, reinvention, and finding new purpose later in life.

The story kicks off when DI Glyn Walsh returns unexpectedly early from bereavement leave. He and DS Sion Dearden are thrown together to investigate the murder of an esteemed university professor. Their investigation soon takes them deep into the hidden underbelly of the local university.

Created, written, and executive produced by Matthew Barry (Men Up, The Guest), the series is produced by Quay Street Productions (part of ITV Studios) for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, in co-commission with BBC Cymru Wales.

BBC bosses describe it as a “witty, twisty” crime drama where “picture-perfect Wales meets murder mystery.” It promises humour, heart, and clever plotting alongside the investigations.

Filming has already begun, but an official release date has not yet been announced (expected on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later in 2026 or 2027).
