When will ‘Practical Magic 2’ come out?
The theatrical release date for the second film was originally Sept. 18, 2026, just in time for fall and spooky season, but it moved up a week earlier (which still works for the autumnal season) to Sept. 11 in the post-Labor Day Friday slot.
Has ‘Practical Magic 2’ started production?
Yes! Star Nicole Kidman and director Susanne Bier posted the same video of Kidman and costar Sandra Bullock’s return to the witchy world.
“The witches are back,” Kidman captioned the clip on Instagram. “Owens sisters’ first day on set!”
Production has officially wrapped as of Sept. 13, Nicole Kidman posted on Instagram.
Who is in the cast of ‘Practical Magic 2’?
Other stars returning alongside Kidman and Bullock are Oscar Winner Dianne Wiest and Oscar nominee Stockard Channing, who will reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny, the matriarchs who took in Sally and Gillian after their parents died. The pair instructed Sally and Gillian in the ways of magic, wisdom, mischief and self-reliance.
Joey King has joined as a new face. She will portray one of Sally’s daughters, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
More newcomers to the sequel film include Lee Pace (Foundation), Maisie Williams (The New Look), Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle), and Solly McLeod (The Dead Don’t Hurt). Character details for these newcomers are under wraps, as Deadline exclusively reported.
Who is directing ‘Practical Magic 2’?
Susanne Bier will direct the film from a script by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett (Succession). Deadline exclusively reported that she was in talks for the gig. Goldman co-wrote the original film.
Bier has worked with both Bullock and Kidman before. She directed the Netflix film Birdbox (2018) in which Bullock starred, and she more recently teamed with Nicole Kidman on the Netflix series The Perfect Couple adapted from Elin Hilderbrand’s novel by Jenna Lamia.
Griffin Dunne directed the original film, which grossed more than $47 million in the states.
