Carol McGiffin, 66, has revealed she feels she “needs” another facelift but is not going to get one because she “can’t afford it” and worries it would horrify her husband Mark Cassidy. The former Loose Women host, who underwent a facelift in 2018, shared with Suddenly Single podcast host Margie Keefe that the results of her 2018 procedure have mostly faded, leaving her feeling like she could use another one. However, Carol admitted that the cost of surgery is a significant barrier and, more importantly, Mark, 43, didn’t react well to the “gruesome” appearance she had right after the procedure.
Speaking candidly, Carol explained, “Mark didn’t like how I looked because it was gruesome when I was just out of it, the first two weeks where you’re bruised.” Despite her desire for another facelift, Carol said, “I’m not going to get another one because I couldn’t do it to Mark. Anyway, I can’t afford it anymore; it’s expensive.”
Her first facelift in 2018 had been highly publicized when she debuted the results on Loose Women. At the time, she was open about the procedure and the recovery process, but eight years later, she finds herself wishing for another touch-up. “All I’ve had is that facelift, and that was in 2018, so that is coming to the end of its life,” she shared. “I do need another one, but I’m not going to get another one because I couldn’t do it to Mark.”
The cost of facelifts varies significantly in the UK, with prices for a mini facelift starting at £4,000-7,000, and a full facelift setting people back £7,000-12,000. For more experienced surgeons in high-demand areas like London, prices can rise dramatically, with deep plane facelifts costing as much as £30,000. Carol, who has been very open about her cosmetic procedures, reflected on the financial and emotional aspects of such surgery.
In addition to discussing her cosmetic surgeries, Carol also opened up about her relationship with Mark, revealing that they had eloped to Bangkok in 2018 without informing any family members. “Quite a few people were upset we’d done it without telling them,” Carol explained. “We didn’t even tell Mark’s mum and dad until about six months later.” Despite the upset, Carol said they didn’t see the need for a big celebration, especially as they had already been together for ten years before getting married. “We’d already been together for 10 years when we got married, and we’re coming up to 18 years together now,” she said.
Their bond has been solidified over the years, especially after Carol’s health struggles. Mark was an incredible source of support when Carol was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2015. She described him as “unbelievable” throughout her diagnosis and treatment, even shaving her head when her hair began to fall out.
Carol also briefly discussed her previous marriage to radio and TV presenter Chris Evans, with whom she was married from 1991 until their divorce in 1998.
While Carol continues to be open about her journey, including her cosmetic enhancements and the highs and lows of her relationships, it’s clear that her love for Mark and her willingness to embrace aging on her own terms are central to her story.
