Chef James Martin has shared an update on his health journey, revealing that he underwent a fresh round of surgery late last year, just two years after publicly battling facial cancer. Known for his role on James Martin’s Saturday Morning, James took a brief break from the spotlight after revealing his cancer diagnosis in 2023, which had first been confirmed back in 2018. Since then, he’s been incredibly open about his treatments, surgeries, and recovery process.
But his latest procedure isn’t just about his health—it’s something that’s left his colleagues in awe! James, who is known for his keen attention to detail, underwent laser surgery to enhance his vision. “Oh my God, I can see round corners now, it’s scary!” James confessed during a recent appearance on Good Housekeeping’s My Life In A Biscuit Tin podcast.
This wasn’t your typical laser eye surgery. James had full refractive lens surgery, where his natural lenses were replaced with new ones. The outcome? He now has near-perfect vision—he can spot veins on trees and read without glasses. “People are scared at work now because I can see stuff a mile off,” James joked, explaining how it’s changed the way he works in the kitchen and on set.
James, who’s always prided himself on his obsessive attention to detail, says the surgery has only amplified that trait. “In the industry I’m in, detail is everything,” he said. “I think you can still care about every little thing, whether you’re in the kitchen or working in TV production.”
After overcoming cancer and now dealing with his new “superhuman” vision, James Martin is more focused than ever, not just on his cooking but on the little details that matter to his viewers. With his eye surgery now behind him, he’s ready to continue delivering the high standards his fans expect—no matter how sharp his vision gets!
