Lorraine is still mourning the death of her father, John Kelly, who died in January after a fall on an icy path. Work issues have left the star struggling to adjust after saying goodbye to colleagues she loved.
“She’s suddenly found herself with a lot more time on her hands, given these extra weeks off the air, and for a workhorse like Lorraine, it’s taken a significant adjustment,” a source told the Sun. “She is struggling with life without the team she worked with for many years.
“They provided daily support and interaction; they were like a second family that Lorraine had lost in a brutal and sudden way. She has been trying to lift her spirits by keeping herself busy, but she’s still ambitious, and she always has an eye on keeping herself fulfilled career-wise.”
Asked in the wake of the cuts if the decision came as a shock to her, she said: “Not really. I mean, it’s kind of indicative of the whole industry, really. I’m just glad that we’re still there.
“We’ve still managed to save some jobs. A lot of my team are going to This Morning. And so yeah, it’s not my decision. It wasn’t a decision that I made.”
“I just feel lucky to still be doing what I love to do. I mean, what’s not to love? There we are this morning. Brian Cox is a massive hero of me. Both Brian Coxes, the actor and the astrophysicist, both of the heroes of mine.
“You know, getting to talk to people like that is is is a privilege, really. You know, getting to watch Jamie Oliver cook something and then eat it is fantastic.
“And you know, and you know, next year all our regulars will still be there, Dr Hilary and Doctor Amir and Mark Hayes and Ross King, all the usual people that we’ve known.”So I’m just glad that we’re still going to be there. It’ll be different. But you know what? I’ve been through many a regime change. So it’s just another one. Just another one. It’s fine. We’ll still be there and it will still be really good fun and I still really, really, really enjoy it. So I feel very lucky.”
