Cats, and vampires, and giants — oh my! The 79th annual Tony Awards nominations have been revealed, honoring the best in Broadway and setting the stage for the big showdown between the stage shows when the 2026 Tonys (hosted by Pink) air June 7 from Radio City Music Hall on CBS and Paramount+.

Uzo Aduba (a Tony nominee for Clyde’s) and Darren Criss (a Tony winner for Maybe Happy Ending) announced the first batch of nominees on CBS Mornings, and the rest of the categories after on the Tony Awards’ YouTube page.

The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! led the musical field with 12 nominations each, followed closely by Ragtime, with 11 noms. Death of Salesman led among all plays with nine nominations. And there were several notable individual nods, and at least one notable name missing.

At 96, June Squibb became the oldest acting nominee ever for Marjorie Prime. Ironically, the previous record-holder was Lois Smith, who originated Squibb’s role of Marjorie both on stage and in the 2017 film adaptation, and was Tony-nominated at 89 for The Inheritance in 2020. Speaking of Marjorie Prime, Danny Burstein’s nod for the play marked his ninth career nomination, making him the most-nominated male actor in Tony history.

Rose Byrne followed up her Oscar nomination (and Golden Globes win) for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You with a best actress in a play nomination for Fallen Angels. The last actor to be nominated for both an Oscar and a Tony in the same year was Adam Driver, who pulled off the double dip in 2019 for BlacKkKlansman and Burn This.

And after being snubbed for Spring Awakening and not eligible for Funny GirlLea Michele fell short of scoring her first-ever Tony nomination for the revival of Chess, as she was unable to crack the Leading Actress in a Musical field.
