Kate Garraway breaks silence on new man – and why she didn’t make red carpet debut with him at TRIC Awards

KATE Garraway has broken her silence about her new boyfriend and revealed why she didn’t make her red carpet debut with him at the TRIC Awards.

The GMB presenter has grown close to broadcast journalist Liam Halligan, 56, over the past few months, but attended the event in London on Tuesday on her own.

Speaking at the TRIC Awards, she explained why she was flying solo, saying: “I didn’t get a plus one so I couldn’t bring anyone.”

Asked how the relationship was going she said: “I can’t [say] thank you.”

Last month Kate, 59, was pictured cuddling up to Liam as she supported him as he embarked on a 300km London to Paris charity tandem bike ride.

Liam was also a friend of Kate’s late spouse, Derek Draper, who died from Covid complications in 2024.

Kate also spoke about her recent interview with Jermaine Jenas on GMBCredit: Not known, clear with picture desk

A friend told us at the time: “It’s still very early days for them as a couple, but they are fitting into each other’s lives well and spending lots of time together.

“They are really happy at the moment, but aren’t rushing anything. Kate knew her appearance at Liam’s charity bike ride would attract attention, but she was keen to raise awareness for the charities.

“Kate is finding her way out of a tough period and has known Liam for over 20 years, so feels familiar and safe with him.”

Meanwhile on the red carpet, Kate also spoke about her recent GMB interview with Jermaine Jenas, which ended up being a bit tense.

During the interview, the ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder admitted to Kate and her co-host Ranvir Singh that he had “lost everything” after being axed from Match of the Day and The One Show over “inappropriate texts”

He was fired by the Beeb in August 2024 after a probe was launched into allegations made by a female member of staff on The One Show.

After the interview, Jermaine claimed in an Instagram post that the interviewers had a “thirst for blood”.

But speaking to The Sun at the TRIC Awards, Kate said: “I think he wanted to talk about his experiences didn’t he? You just want to make sure you’re asking the questions that were in people’s minds.

“He was fine with me after. It’s hard isn’t it because he has tried to own what happened but also there will still be people who still have a lot of questions. So you have to put those questions to him.”
