THE Royal Albert Hall will host Sir David Attenborough’s extravagant 100th birthday party TONIGHT.
Broadcasters Sir Michael Palin, Steve Backshall and Chris Packham are all set to appear at the live concert.
Who is appearing at the celebration?
Scottish TV presenter Kirsty Young is set to host the celebration that will include musical performances from a plethora of esteemed guests.
Young said: “Sir David’s gift to the world has been a life spent exquisitely revealing Earth’s wonders to us all.
“The very least he deserves is a big 100th birthday bash at the Royal Albert Hall.
“I’m very happy indeed, as the host, to be able to invite everyone to the party.”
Frontman of popular band Bastille, Dan Smith, will team up with the BBC Concert Orchestra to play hit song “Pompeii” – that appeared in Planet Earth III.
Along with Icelandic band Sigur Rós, who will play “Hoppípolla”, which was used in promotions for Planet Earth and Planet Earth II.
More musicians that featured in Sir David Attenborough’s Planet Earth TV series will also be performing tonight.
Away from music, the previously mentioned Sir Michael, Backshall and Packham will be looking back on the nature icon’s best moments and reflect on the long-lasting legacy he will leave behind.
When is Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday party?
The special 90-minute concert will take place at 8:30pm tonight to celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough.
It will be available to watch on BBC One or the iPlayer.
In an audio message that was put out yesterday, Sir David said: “I had rather thought that I would celebrate my 100th birthday quietly, but it seems that many of you have had other ideas.
“I have been completely overwhelmed by birthday greetings, from pre-school groups to care home residents, and countless individuals and families of all ages.”
